Roel Dieltiens

Roel Dieltiens is a Belgian cellist who enjoys international acclaim for his expressive playing style and stylistic versatility. Over a career spanning more than 45 years, he has established himself as both a distinguished soloist and chamber musician. Equally at home on the Baroque cello and the modern cello, he has developed a unique artistic voice. His recordings have been widely praised and awarded for their intense musical commitment, refined phrasing, and consistently strong rhetorical character.

Dieltiens is the founder of the renowned Ensemble Explorations. For two decades, he led a cello class at the Zurich University of the Arts. In addition to a repertoire that ranges from the early Baroque through the Romantic period to contemporary compositions, Roel Dieltiens gives masterclasses and serves as a respected jury member at major cello competitions around the world.

Dozens of solo recordings, primarily for Harmonia Mundi and Accent, reflect his wide-ranging interests through works by composers such as J.S. Bach, A. Vivaldi, C.P.E. Bach, J. Haydn, L. van Beethoven, F. Mendelssohn, G. Rossini, F. Chopin, A. Franchomme, A.F. Servais, Z. Kodály, B. Martinů, and many others.
