Ageet Zweistra studied with Anner Bijlsma at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague (NL). Deeply interested in the then-emerging early music movement, she was already a member of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra (Ton Koopman), Ensemble Mosaïques (Christophe Coin), and the Collegium Vocale Gent (Philippe Herreweghe) while still a student. In 1991, she was one of the founders of Philippe Herreweghe’s Orchestre des Champs-Élysées, and she has served as its principal cellist ever since.

Passionate about chamber music—and more specifically, the repertoire for string quartet—she was a member of the Turner Quartet from 1995 to 2005 and of the Edding Quartet from 2009 to 2020, with whom she recorded works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and Brahms on period instruments. She has had the privilege of performing in the most beautiful concert halls across the five continents and can be heard on more than 100 CD recordings.

As part of the “Centre Européen de Recherche et de Pratique Musicale” at the Abbaye aux Dames in Saintes (FR), she teaches young people from around the world the performance practice of the 18th- and 19th-century repertoire on period instruments.
